Abhishek Banerjee alleges BJP attack on Kolkata residence

The Diamond Harbour MP claimed the early morning incident was his seventh attempt on his life in six months.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee alleged that BJP supporters attacked his Kalighat Road residence in Kolkata around 2 am on Saturday. According to reports from India Today, Banerjee claimed the incident marked the seventh time in half a year that his life had been targeted.

The Diamond Harbour MP stated that the attack followed two days of continuous reconnaissance of his home and office. Banerjee shared videos on X showing individuals striking building gates with sticks and a mob throwing objects into the premises.

Banerjee alleged that the confrontation resulted in serious injuries to four or five of his supporters, including one person requiring plastic surgery and another suffering a fracture. He accused the judiciary and police of failing to act despite the repeated threats.

West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh dismissed the allegations, suggesting the disturbance was a backlash to Banerjee's birthday celebrations being held on the footpath. Ghosh questioned the motive behind the claims, stating that people were attempting to mislead the public.

Kolkata Police intervened during the clash between BJP and TMC supporters and have since enforced Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) around the residence. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
