Mohammad Amir denies entering IPL auction despite British citizenship

The former Pakistan fast bowler clarified on Tuesday that he has no plans to register for the tournament.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has denied reports that he will enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. According to Moneycontrol, Amir clarified on X that news regarding his participation in the IPL is not true.

The 33-year-old, who recently registered for the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) draft as a British national, had sparked speculation about a potential IPL stint. Bhaskar English reported that Amir stated, "No, I am not registering for the auction."

Amir acquired British citizenship earlier this year through his wife, Narjis Khan. He has since played as a local player in English competitions such as The Hundred and the T20 Blast.

The former pacer previously played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is for Pakistan, taking a total of 271 wickets. He retired from international cricket following the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The IPL 2027 auction is scheduled to be held in Goa on 17 December, with the player registration deadline set for 23 November, according to Bhaskar English.

While Pakistani players have not participated in the IPL since 2008, former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood played in the league between 2012 and 2015 after obtaining British citizenship.
