Himachal leaders pay tribute to Indira Gandhi and Sardar Patel

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Congress leaders honoured the two leaders on their respective anniversaries in Shimla.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, and other Congress leaders paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Saturday.

The leaders gathered in Shimla to mark the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi and the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, highlighting their roles in nation-building and unity.

Former Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Pratibha Singh said the country would remain grateful to Indira Gandhi for her policies and contributions that benefited millions, including the youth.

Health Minister Col (Retd) Dhaniram Shandil described the former Prime Minister as an Iron Lady, noting her leadership during the 1971 war and her decisions regarding economic and social development.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri stated that Indira Gandhi helped Himachal Pradesh emerge as a separate state and played a decisive role in the liberation of Bangladesh.

Chief Minister Sukhu noted that her decisions on land ceiling, the abolition of privy purses, and the nationalisation of banks shaped the country's economic and social policies.
