Expelled NC leader joins BJP as two others join Congress in Kargil
Political realignments occur in Kargil ahead of the November 21 panchayat and municipal elections in Ladakh.
Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, the expelled National Conference leader and former chairman and chief executive councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, joined the BJP on Saturday, October 31.
Akhoon, who was expelled from the NC for six years on July 18, said his close association with the BJP over the last three years helped him understand the party.
He stated he was impressed by his interactions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and senior BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir.
In a separate function, former director of Sheep and Animal Husbandry Raza Abbasi and social activist Fida Hussain joined the Congress.
The joining of Abbasi, the son of former Zanskar MLA Haji Abbas, and Hussain took place in the presence of Ladakh Territorial Congress working president Asgar Ali Karbalai.
These political shifts come before the November 21 local body polls and follow the dissolution of the LAHDC, Kargil, on October 21 by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.
