Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations at Parade Ground in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on Saturday, October 31. The event marked the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, according to the Free Press Journal.
During the celebrations, Modi witnessed a parade and administered the Oath of Unity to reaffirm commitment to national unity, integrity and security. The Gujarat Police Band performed a full rendition of the national song, 'Vande Mataram'.
The event included cultural activities, traditional dances and songs. A special theatrical presentation titled 'Naxal Mukt Bharat' was organised by the National School of Drama, featuring approximately 2,000 artists from 126 districts affected by Left-Wing Extremism.
Addressing the gathering, Modi spoke on the significance of independence, the republic and national unity. He said that while independence allows a country to decide its own future, a republic gives freedom the right direction and upholds the dignity of the Constitution.
The Prime Minister stated that the Constitution makes the nation accountable to the people, while unity provides the strength to move forward as one nation. He noted that Independence Day, Republic Day and National Unity Day are celebrated across the country with enthusiasm.
