UP CEO orders deactivation of ECINET login IDs for computer assistants

The move follows reports of login ID misuse in Pilibhit district during electoral roll revisions.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa on Saturday directed the immediate deactivation of ECINET portal login IDs for all computer assistants working in Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) offices across the state.

According to The Hindu, the decision follows reports from Pilibhit district concerning the improper use of credentials by computer assistants who serve as voter registration centre operators.

The CEO's office stated that district election officers must ensure no operator can perform any activity on the portal using these IDs and must submit compliance reports.

In Pilibhit, an investigation found that 13,779 forms were entered erroneously between 31 May 2026 and 29 August 2026, with 10,470 of those being approved.

The CEO's office also directed the immediate termination of the outsourced computer assistant involved in the Pilibhit case.

Legal action has been initiated against the Pilibhit assistant and the local ERO under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
