Intelligence officials believe Jensen Huang had a romantic relationship with a Megaspeed executive suspected of being recruited by Beijing's intelligence agency.
US intelligence officials believe Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang had a romantic relationship with Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed, according to reports by the Financial Times, Mint and Hindustan Times. The US intelligence community suspects Alice Huang was recruited by China’s Ministry of State Security to gather information on the Nvidia chief.
A government memo containing these assessments was shared with a small group of senior US officials earlier this year, shortly before President Donald Trump travelled to Beijing for a summit with President Xi Jinping. The New York Times reported that the relationship was viewed as part of an effort to obtain US artificial intelligence technology and influence chip export decisions.
Megaspeed, which was spun off from a Chinese gaming firm in 2023, has faced investigation by US authorities regarding the potential movement of advanced Nvidia chips into China in breach of export controls. Nvidia stated its own internal checks found no evidence of such diversion.
Nvidia declined to comment on the memo or the claims of an intimate relationship, though it previously noted that Huang meets thousands of customer executives annually. Huang described his business dealings with Megaspeed as normal and stated the US government had not informed him of its suspicions.
Three Republican chairmen from the House committees on China, Foreign Affairs, and Intelligence have requested a voluntary, closed-door briefing with Huang. They want to discuss his interactions with Alice Huang and the company's espionage safeguards. Huang has until Wednesday, November 11, to respond to the request.
