US intelligence alleges Nvidia CEO had ties to Chinese spy

A US intelligence memo claims Jensen Huang had a romantic relationship with a suspected Chinese intelligence asset.

The US government believes Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang was romantically involved with a woman suspected of spying for Beijing, according to reports by the Times of India, Financial Times, and Mint.

The intelligence memo, prepared earlier this year, alleges that Huang had a relationship with Alice Huang, an executive at the Singapore-based company Megaspeed. US intelligence officials believe she was recruited by China's Ministry of State Security to gather information on the Nvidia chief.

The findings were reportedly shared with a small group of senior US officials before President Donald Trump travelled to Beijing for a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The allegations involve concerns that sensitive information regarding artificial intelligence technology could be passed to China.

Megaspeed, a customer of Nvidia that was spun off from a Chinese gaming firm in 2023, has faced scrutiny over whether advanced chips are being diverted to China in violation of US export controls. Nvidia previously conducted an internal investigation into these smuggling allegations but found no evidence of wrongdoing.

Nvidia declined to comment on the memo but has stated that its chief executive meets thousands of customer executives annually. A company spokesperson previously told the New York Times that interactions with Megaspeed were not unusual and that no classified information was shared.

The Chinese embassy in Washington has dismissed the accusations as groundless smears. Meanwhile, Republican leaders of three House committees have requested a private briefing with Huang to discuss the intelligence findings.
