UP government provides over ₹415 crore through Risk Mitigation Fund

The fund supports rural families facing emergencies such as illness, natural disasters, and food insecurity through Village Organisations.

The Uttar Pradesh government has provided more than ₹415 crore to 36,330 Village Organisations through the Risk Mitigation Fund, according to The Statesman. The fund is operated via the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission to assist rural families during crises.

Mission Director of the State Rural Livelihoods Mission Arun Kumar said on Sunday that the fund offers relief during emergencies. The scheme assists both Self-Help Group members and non-group members living in the same village panchayats.

The assistance covers situations involving sudden illness, hospitalisation, food insecurity, and health risks, as well as natural disasters like floods, droughts, lightning strikes, and fires. Single women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, migrants, and those with serious illnesses are given special priority.

Each Village Organisation receives a one-time corpus of ₹1.5 lakh to manage local assistance. Self-Help Group members can receive up to ₹5,000, and the fund can also be used to help non-members join these groups. With the approval of Village Organisation office-bearers, financial aid may be given as a grant in certain circumstances.

The mission has also sanctioned loans totalling ₹11,378 crore to more than 9.75 lakh Self-Help Groups to promote economic self-reliance. The conference was attended by several officials, including Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Minister Shravan Kumar.
