Leaders extend greetings on 70th Kerala Piravi Day

Chief Minister VD Satheesan and Governor Om Prakash Mathur congratulated citizens as the state marks seven decades of formation.

Chief Minister VD Satheesan, Governor Om Prakash Mathur, and Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan extended greetings to the people of the state on Sunday to mark the 70th Kerala Piravi. According to The Statesman, various political leaders also shared messages regarding the state's development and social progress.

In a social media post, Chief Minister Satheesan stated that the state has finished seven successful decades and is entering a new era. He said his administration aims to provide empathetic governance that addresses the daily difficulties of citizens alongside broader development goals.

Governor Om Prakash Mathur issued an official message from Lok Bhavan praising the state's achievements in literacy, healthcare, and education. He also paid tribute to social reformers Sree Narayana Guru, Ayyankali, and Chattampi Swamikal for their ideals of humanity and equality.

Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan noted that the day marks the result of cultural movements and agitations that united Malayalam-speaking areas. He called for the preservation of democratic and secular foundations.

BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the celebration is unique as it is the first time the day is observed under the official name 'Keralam'. He noted this change honours the linguistic and cultural roots of the region.

Kerala Piravi commemorates the establishment of the state on November 1, 1956, following the States Reorganisation Act. The process unified the territories of Travancore, Cochin, and Malabar into a single administrative boundary.
