Over 42 lakh widows receive pension support in Uttar Pradesh
The Destitute Women Pension Scheme provides monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 to eligible women across the state.
The Uttar Pradesh government is providing regular financial assistance to more than 42 lakh women through the Destitute Women Pension Scheme, according to The Statesman.
Official figures up to the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year show that each eligible woman receives a monthly pension of ₹1,000.
Since the 2024-25 financial year, the state has implemented an Aadhaar-based payment system to transfer funds directly into bank accounts linked to Aadhaar.
To qualify for the scheme, applicants must be permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh, aged over 18, widowed, and have a total yearly family income of no more than ₹2 lakh.
The monthly amount was increased from ₹500 in 2016-17 to ₹1,000 starting in the 2021-22 financial year under the Yogi government.
Officials from the Women Welfare Department have been told to identify eligible women and ensure timely application processing so that no one is deprived of benefits.
