Video of Congress leaders at Adoor police station sparks political row
Footage showing Sreenadevi Kunjamma and Fenny Ninan at the station has surfaced following an alleged assault on a suspect.
A video showing Congress leaders creating a ruckus at the Adoor police station in Pathanamthitta has surfaced on Saturday, according to The Hindu. The footage shows a group of over 20 people at the station between 10:15 pm and 12 am on July 11.
The visuals show the group barging into the station and assaulting a suspect in police custody. Pathanamthitta district panchayat member Sreenadevi Kunjamma is seen confronting YouTuber Rajan Joseph, who was in the lock-up during a defamation case.
Adoor police previously booked 20 persons for the assault, which resulted in injuries to at least one police officer. However, the police have not identified the accused, leading to allegations of political high-handedness.
CPI(M) area secretary S. Manoj accused the police of protecting Kunjamma and her party workers. He stated that the police allowed Kunjamma to approach Joseph inside the lock-up and noted that the inability to identify culprits exposes bias.
Responding to the allegations, Kunjamma said she went to the station to identify the accused as part of the procedure. She denied threatening Joseph, stating she only asked him if he was doing well.
Kunjamma further alleged that CPI(M) leaders in Adoor were supporting Joseph, whom she accused of insulting women.
