Karnataka Congress expels Kripa Alva for six years

Former general secretary Kripa Alva was expelled over her alleged involvement in a sting operation targeting party leaders.

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has expelled former general secretary Kripa Alva from the party for six years with immediate effect. According to The Hindu, the decision follows her alleged involvement in a sting operation targeting Congress leaders.

KPCC Vice-President M Narayanaswamy issued the expulsion order on the instructions of the KPCC President. The order stated that Alva's conduct amounted to anti-party activities and caused embarrassment to the party through negative media publicity.

The party had previously issued a show-cause notice to Alva seeking an explanation regarding the incident. The KPCC noted that she had not submitted any response or explanation to the notice.

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had named Alva in relation to a defamatory video. He has obtained a court injunction to prevent media houses from airing or publishing the video.

Bengaluru police investigated the sting operation and stated on Thursday that allegations of sexual abuse in the video were part of a fabricated and deliberately constructed narrative. The police said collected evidence and statements do not substantiate the occurrence of the incident mentioned in the video.
