Amit Shah says Sardar Patel lacked due recognition for years
The Union Home Minister flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ in New Delhi to mark the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel did not receive the recognition he deserved for many years. According to ThePrint, Shah alleged that the Opposition had attempted to erase the memory of Patel.
Flagging off the ‘Run for Unity’ in New Delhi to mark Patel’s 151st birth anniversary, Shah said that the legacy of Sardar Patel could not be suppressed. He stated that the country's linguistic, cultural, and religious diversity is a power rather than a weakness.
Shah said that Patel shaped the geography of India by uniting numerous princely states and royal domains to create the map of a unified nation. He noted that since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the country has observed Patel’s birth anniversary as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’.
The Home Minister mentioned that when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he commissioned the ‘Statue of Unity’. Shah added that the construction of the Somnath Temple, which Patel envisioned, was an experience of national resurgence.
Shah also stated that the country got rid of Naxalism on March 31 this year. He said that creating a drug-free India is a foundational step towards achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
