Union Home Minister Amit Shah alleged that the Opposition attempted to erase the memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. According to ThePrint, the event was held to mark the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Shah alleged that the Opposition had attempted to erase the memory of Sardar Patel for many years. He stated that Patel's legacy could not be suppressed and said the country's linguistic, cultural and religious diversity is its power.

The Home Minister noted that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi became prime minister, the country has been observing Patel’s birth anniversary as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’. He said Patel created the map of unified India by uniting numerous princely states and royal domains.

According to the Free Press Journal, hundreds of participants took part in marathons across the country. Various state leaders also flagged off events, including Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in Chandigarh and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Panchkula.

In Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off the run in Dehradun and paid tribute to Patel's role in integrating the nation. In Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel flagged off the run in Vadodara.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant flagged off events across all 12 blocks of the state. Sawant highlighted Patel's efforts toward the liberation of Goa and paid tribute to him.
