Akhilesh Yadav and Awadhesh Prasad target Amit Shah over UP claims

Samajwadi Party leaders dismissed the Union Home Minister's assertion that the BJP is firmly entrenched in Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday dismissed Union Home Minister Amit Shah's claim that the BJP is firmly established in Uttar Pradesh. According to the Times of India, Yadav questioned Shah regarding crimes against women and Dalits in the state.

Yadav said the Home Minister should look into why women face injustice and why people from the Dalit community are among the worst affected. He also questioned why the state witnesses so many murders.

Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad responded to Shah's comparison of the BJP's position to 'Angad's foot', stating the foot has already been uprooted. Prasad said the BJP failed to retain several seats in the recent Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections, citing defeats in Varanasi, Lucknow, Agra, and Prayagraj.

Prasad also referred to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, noting the BJP did not win all 80 seats in the state. The Samajwadi Party won 37 seats and Congress secured six, bringing the INDIA bloc's total to 43 seats.

Shah made his remarks on Friday during a BJP state working committee meeting in Lucknow. He expressed confidence that the BJP would return to power in the 2027 Assembly elections and stated the party would implement the Uniform Civil Code in Uttar Pradesh if re-elected.
