Women are treated like curry leaves in politics, says Motamma
Former Karnataka minister C. Motamma criticised the lack of women in decision-making roles and the absence of women in the state cabinet.
Speaking to media persons in Hassan on Saturday, former Karnataka minister C. Motamma said women are being used in politics merely for namesake. According to the Deccan Herald, Motamma remarked that women are treated like 'curry leaves' in politics, used for flavour and then discarded.
Motamma expressed regret that while the 33 per cent Women's Reservation Bill is being introduced in Parliament, women are kept out of the Karnataka State cabinet. She stated that this mindset is prevalent across all political parties and that women are kept away from positions of authority.
Recalling her tenure as a minister, Motamma said former Chief Minister S M Krishna made her a minister and she proved her capabilities through effective governance. She added that women can prove their administrative acumen if given opportunities.
The former minister also said it is unacceptable for political leaders to waste time on sting operations while the state faces crop failure, farmer distress, and a severe rain deficit.
Motamma advised Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy to coordinate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to secure more funds for the state. She suggested that as a Central government minister, he should focus on visiting states to prioritise developmental activities instead of sting operation controversies.
