Modi assures Maharashtra farmers of assistance during drought
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Pune Metro Line 3 and launched further connectivity projects worth approximately Rs 21,800 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday assured farmers in drought-hit Maharashtra of all possible assistance from the Union government. Speaking virtually, Modi said the government stands firmly with them during the crisis and urged citizens to support farmers during the festival season, according to the Hindustan Times.
Modi noted that the state government has provided an advance of Rs 5,000 to eligible farmers in affected areas while crop-loss assessments are being finished. He added that the central government has also deposited PM-Kisan funds to help families manage the situation.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 23.2-km Pune Metro Line 3, which connects the Hinjewadi IT hub with Shivajinagar. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 8,313 crore, the Pink Line features 23 stations and will be operated entirely by women train operators.
Passenger services on this corridor are scheduled to begin at 6am on November 4. In its initial phase, the service will operate across 17 stations.
During the event, Modi also laid the foundation for Pune Metro Phase II. This expansion includes four proposed corridors with an estimated cost of around Rs 13,500 crore, which will connect areas such as Kharadi, Hadapsar, and Magarpatta.
Highlighting national infrastructure growth, Modi stated that Metro services are now available in 26 cities, compared to five cities before the NDA government took power, as reported by the Free Press Journal.
