NDA government stands with Maharashtra farmers during drought, says PM Modi
The Prime Minister assured farmers of all possible assistance from the Central government following the declaration of drought in 85 per cent of the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the NDA government stands firmly with farmers facing the drought situation in Maharashtra. Speaking after inaugurating the Pune Metro Line 3 (Pink Line) via video conferencing, Modi assured the farming community of all possible assistance from the Central government, according to The Economic Times.
Modi stated that he is aware of the drought situation and noted that the state government, under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has provided advance assistance. He mentioned that while the state has undertaken substantial water conservation work in recent years, the current natural calamity has created serious challenges.
The Prime Minister appealed to citizens across the country to remember farmers during the festive season to ensure drought-affected families can experience the happiness of Diwali. He described it as a social responsibility to not forget the difficulties faced by farmers and people living in villages.
The state government has declared 85 per cent of Maharashtra as drought-hit and announced an interim aid of Rs 5,000 before Diwali. Modi also referred to the assistance being provided through the PM-KISAN scheme as part of the government's commitment to the farming community.
Citing a World Bank report, the Prime Minister said 50 crore people in India had overcome extreme poverty within 12 years. He added that economic growth and poverty reduction are interconnected and that investments in infrastructure are improving lives and creating employment.
