Kolkata police may question ex-minister Indranil Sen's wife and daughter again

Investigators are seeking clarification regarding contradictory statements and financial transactions linked to an alleged multi-crore fake Durga Puja pass scam.

Kolkata police may summon Madhuchhanda Sen and Averi Sen for a second round of questioning regarding an alleged multi-crore fake Durga Puja pass scam, according to The Hawk.

The investigation involves festival tours organised around the UNESCO-tagged celebration. The Kolkata Police and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are conducting parallel investigations into the matter.

Police sources said the initial statements of Madhuchhanda Sen, the wife of arrested former West Bengal Minister Indranil Sen, and Averi Sen, his daughter, were not satisfactory.

The police source stated that Indranil Sen and his wife provided contradictory statements regarding their roles in 'Mass Art', the entity through which the fake passes were allegedly sold. While the former minister claimed he had no role in day-to-day operations, Madhuchhanda Sen said that although the entity was registered in her name, her husband took all major decisions.

Both Indranil Sen and his wife have named Dhurbojyoti Basu as the person responsible for the operational activities of 'Mass Art'. Investigators are seeking clarity on the roles played by the former minister, his wife, and Basu.

The proposed second round of questioning for Averi Sen relates to financial transactions involving two entities, 'iScape' and 'Mayra', which she reportedly controlled. A police source said she allegedly failed to explain frequent fund transfers to these accounts during her first questioning on November 2.

Indranil Sen, a former West Bengal Tourism Minister and Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs, is currently in police custody. He is scheduled to be produced before a city court on November 10.
