Delhi Police ACP suspended after leading personnel protest over officer transfers
Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashistha was suspended on Tuesday following a demonstration outside the police headquarters.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha has been suspended after joining a protest by police personnel outside the Delhi Police headquarters, according to ThePrint. The protest, held on Monday, was directed against the transfer of two officers.
The demonstration followed a confrontation between police and lawyers at the Shahdara police station. The controversy began after advocate Lalit Bansal allegedly sustained a serious head injury during a scuffle inside the station on October 23. Following the incident, lawyers launched an indefinite strike and demanded action against the officers involved.
On October 28, Vashistha, who was the sub-divisional police officer in Gandhi Nagar, was transferred to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC). Shahdara Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Arun Kumar was also transferred to the security unit.
During the protest, Vashistha described the demonstration as an "organic call" and stated that the police were taking a stand against hooliganism. He said that if police stations are not safe, then no place can be safe.
The protest involved approximately 100 police personnel, including women officers, who demanded the reinstatement of Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar. Vashistha had also proposed a dialogue with Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar to discuss the matter.
