Eight arrested for attacking BSF personnel in Tripura
Chief Minister Manik Saha has promised strict legal action after a mob assaulted security forces in Sepahijala district.
Eight people have been arrested following an assault on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Ashabari area of Tripura's Sepahijala district, according to The Hawk. The incident occurred on Monday morning near the international border under the Kalamchaura Police Station.
A senior police official stated that the attack involved a mob using sticks and bamboo against the personnel. The confrontation began after BSF jawans apprehended an Indian smuggler during an attempt to stop illegal trade. While Bangladeshi smugglers fled across the border, the apprehended man allegedly told local villagers that the BSF had assaulted him.
The resulting crowd surrounded a BSF vehicle and attacked the jawans, injuring three personnel, including a Company Commander. The attackers also reportedly tried to take a rifle from a jawan and damaged a government vehicle. One attacker was also injured during the violence.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, who holds the Home portfolio, condemned the assault on his official X account. He stated that violence against security forces is unacceptable and that those responsible will face justice through strict legal action.
While eight individuals are in custody, police officials said an intensive search operation is currently underway to find the remaining accused. Tension has continued to prevail in the locality following the incident.
