India wins maiden Women's World Cup by 52 runs against South Africa
Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma delivered key performances to secure the title at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
India won its first Women's World Cup title on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, according to the Times of India.
Shafali Verma, who joined the squad as a replacement for Pratika Rawal, scored 87 runs off 78 balls to help India post 298 for 7. Verma also took two wickets during the South African chase.
Off-spinner Deepti Sharma scored a half-century at a run-a-ball and took five wickets to restrict South Africa. The South African captain Laura Wolvaardt scored 101 runs off 98 balls before being caught by Amanjot Kaur.
South Africa won the toss, but a two-hour rain delay prevented expected dew from affecting the pitch. South Africa was eventually bowled out for 246 in the 46th over.
Harmanpreet Kaur took a catch at extra cover to dismiss Nadine de Klerk, sealing the victory for India. The win followed India's semi-final victory against Australia at the same venue.
