Pakistan fined for slow over-rate in Lahore tri-series final
The team lost five per cent of its match fee after being found one over short during the victory against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan players were penalised five per cent of their match fee for failing to maintain the required over-rate during the ODI Tri-Series final in Lahore on Saturday, according to reports from Sportstar, Hindustan Times and The Tribune.
The host nation defeated Sri Lanka by three wickets at the Gaddafi Stadium to win the series, but was ruled to be one over short after time allowances were applied.
Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the penalty, which meant no formal hearing was necessary, the International Cricket Council (ICC) stated.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz.
Despite the fine, Pakistan successfully chased a target of 326, led by Fakhar Zaman who scored 127 runs from 99 balls.
