Four booked after parcel explosion in Latur

Two gun shop owners are among those charged following an explosion involving air pistol components at a courier shop.

Latur police have registered a case against four people, including two gun shop owners, following an explosion involving a parcel of air pistol components in Maharashtra's Latur city. The incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, October 31, 2026, while parcels were being unloaded from a tempo on Vilasrao Deshmukh Marg, according to The Hindu.

One person was seriously injured during the explosion. Police stated that the consignment was handled and transported negligently despite the risk of serious injury or loss of life.

Inspector Santosh Patil told PTI on Sunday, November 1, that the case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Explosives Act, 1884, and the Carriage by Road Act.

The owners of two gun shops allegedly dispatched the air pistol components, which included an air pistol magazine and a CO2 tube, without following necessary safety precautions. The other two accused allegedly accepted the consignment and facilitated its transport without taking required safety measures, police said.
