Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday inaugurated 1,416 residential flats for migrant Kashmiri Pandit PM Package employees at Zewan, Kakan Maran, and Kulangam Bagh. According to The Pioneer, the Zewan complex in the outskirts of Srinagar was inaugurated in person, while the complexes in Budgam and Kupwara were opened through virtual mode.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha stated that the return of Kashmiri Pandit families with dignity is necessary to protect the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region. He said that the Valley lacks a vital part of its soul without the contribution of the Pandit community.
The Zewan complex is the largest under the project, containing 936 flats across 39 blocks. The Kulangam Bagh complex in Kupwara has 288 flats, and the Kakan Maran complex in Budgam includes 192 flats.
The broader transit accommodation project involves 6,000 flats across 342 blocks in 10 districts of the Kashmir Valley. Of these sanctioned flats, more than 5,200 have been built and over 3,800 have been allotted so far.
Additional Chief Secretary (Public Works R&B Department) Anil Kumar Singh stated that the remaining flats will be finished by December this year.
