Russia detains teenager over alleged Moscow park attack plot

The detention followed a security alert from the US embassy regarding a credible threat at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve.

Russian authorities have detained a Russian teenager suspected of planning an attack at a popular Moscow park, according to Interfax, citing the Federal Security Service (FSB).

The detention occurred after the US embassy in Moscow issued a security alert on Saturday regarding a credible threat of a mass casualty event at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, Al Jazeera reported.

The FSB stated the suspect posted TikTok photos wearing tactical clothing and a balaclava while holding what appeared to be an automatic weapon. The teen also shared images from the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve with the caption, “I found a place.”

During a search of the suspect's residence, officials found the items and clothing shown in the social media posts. The teen's phone reportedly contained searches regarding mass killings and terrorist attacks, alongside a subscription to a neo-Nazi Telegram channel.

The FSB said it is grateful to the American side for providing the information. Russia’s Investigative Committee is currently considering legal action against the suspect.
