Eight killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza including a child

The attacks occurred in Gaza City and Khan Younis on Sunday, according to local hospitals and the Hamas-run interior ministry.

Israeli strikes killed at least eight people, including a child, in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to hospital officials and emergency services. The fatalities occurred during two separate incidents in Gaza City and Khan Younis, BBC News reported.

In the Al-Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza City, a missile hit a group of civilians near Cairo School. This attack killed three people, including a four-year-old boy, hospital officials said.

In the southern city of Khan Younis, a drone strike targeted police officers performing routine duties in the Al-Mawasi area. The Hamas-run interior ministry stated that five officers, aged between 23 and 53, were killed in this attack.

The Israeli military said it carried out two strikes against military operatives but did not provide further details or evidence. The army told AFP it had targeted a terrorist in the south and several others in the north.

Since a ceasefire took effect in October last year, at least 1,580 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory's health ministry. The United Nations considers these figures reliable.

The ongoing conflict began after the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Gaza's health ministry reports that 74,594 people have been killed in the territory since the war began.
