Chennai Mayor R. Priya inaugurates civic projects worth ₹5.35 crore

Four new facilities including a park and a ward office were opened in the Valasaravakkam zone on Sunday.

Chennai Mayor R. Priya inaugurated four civic facilities in the Valasaravakkam zone on Sunday, according to The Hindu. The projects, built using Greater Chennai Corporation Capital Funds, represent a total investment of ₹5.35 crore.

In Nerkundram, the Mayor opened a 3,821-sq.m. park on Matha Koil Street. Built for ₹1.95 crore, the park features a mini-auditorium, a yoga space, a tennis court, and an open-air gym.

An urban wellness centre in Nerkundram, constructed at a cost of ₹25 lakh, was also inaugurated. Additionally, a new ward office on Sakthi Nagar Main Road was opened at a cost of ₹2.05 crore.

The Mayor also inaugurated a ₹1.10 crore expansion of a primary health centre. This 158-sq.m. addition includes a lift and other facilities.

These inaugurations occur during ongoing disagreements between elected representatives and the GCC administration regarding the non-release of ward development funds for 2026-27. Councillors have stated that this delay has impacted the execution of local civic works.
