NCRTC explores transit-oriented growth nodes along regional corridors
The corporation aims to attract private investment for commercial and residential development near Namo Bharat routes.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is studying the creation of mixed-use growth hubs near major regional routes, according to ANI. These corridors include the active Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat line and proposed routes connecting Delhi to Alwar and Karnal.
A workshop organised by NCRTC and the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) addressed the regulatory and financial frameworks needed for Transit Oriented Development (TOD). The event included officials such as D Thara, Secretary of the Department of Capital Development, Gulzar Natrajan, Member Secretary of NCRPB, and N. Saravana Kumar, Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority.
The initiative intends to use high-speed connectivity to build planned urban centres. The goal is to draw private investment into institutional, residential, and commercial sectors.
During the discussions, developers requested measures like higher Floor Area Ratio (FAR), increased ground coverage, and single-window clearances to encourage investment. The Sarai Kale Khan re-development project was identified as a significant location due to its links to the Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, and the Inter-State Bus Terminus.
The proposed TOD model focuses on high-density centres with walkable streets and pedestrian infrastructure. Areas such as Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Duhai were also noted for their potential for organised development along the Namo Bharat network.
