Delhi Gate to Kashmere Gate corridor to undergo redevelopment

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the 3.3 km Netaji Subhash Marg stretch will be transformed into an organised and safe corridor.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday that the 3.3 km Netaji Subhash Marg stretch connecting Delhi Gate to Kashmere Gate will be redeveloped. According to The Hindu, the Indraprastha Virasat Punarvikas Nigam (IVPN) will undertake the project to create an organised, attractive and safe corridor.

Ms. Gupta said the government aims to develop the stretch as a link between Delhi’s history, heritage, architecture, culture and modern urban life. The project includes the integrated development of spaces around Netaji Subhash Marg, such as the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, St James’ Church, and Kashmere Gate area.

The beautification plan is divided into three sections based on road width. The first section runs from Kashmere Gate to General Post Office (GPO) Chowk, the second from GPO Chowk to Brij Mohan Chowk, and the third from Brij Mohan Chowk to the Delhi Gate intersection.

The area around Delhi Gate is proposed to feature a Heritage Interpretation Park with a statue, pavilion, green spaces, pedestrian access and parking. Ms. Gupta said the plan provides space for vehicular traffic, pedestrians and non-motorised transport, including footpaths, bus lanes and cycle tracks.

The redevelopment will also include the construction of public toilets on both sides of the road. Existing bus stops will be upgraded following design guidelines shared by the Public Works Department (PWD).
