Fakhar Zaman helps Pakistan equal India's ODI final chase record
Pakistan chased down 326 to win the ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka in Lahore.
Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman scored 127 off 99 balls to lead his team to a three-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the One-Day International tri-series final in Lahore on Saturday, according to the Times of India.
The hosts reached 331 for seven in 48.3 overs, equalling India's record for the highest successful chase in an ODI final. India previously chased 326 against England in the 2002 NatWest Series final at Lord's.
Zaman, who received the Player of the Match award, said he was waiting for the right moment to score after four matches without a significant performance. He stated he did not change his preparation or approach despite his recent lack of runs.
The left-hander noted he struggled at the start of the innings but credited Saad Baig for a 149-run partnership. Baig scored 74 off 75 balls to register his maiden ODI half-century.
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 325 for eight, with Kamindu Mendis scoring 131 off 128 balls and Pavan Rathnayake making 77. Shaheen Shah Afridi took two wickets for 50 runs for Pakistan.
Arafat Minhas and Hasan Nawaz shared a 94-run partnership to complete the chase with nine balls to spare. This win marks Pakistan's first ODI tri-series title since 2008.
