US Secretary of State Marco Rubio flags Pakistan's terrorism concerns
Rubio stated that the United States does not want Pakistan to be targeted by terrorism during the G20 meeting in Atlanta.
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged Pakistan's concerns regarding terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan during the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta. Rubio said that Islamabad believes the Afghan Taliban has not done enough to constrain attacks sponsored from Afghan territory.
Rubio added that Pakistan has taken action against these security threats and stated that the US does not want Pakistan to be targeted by terrorism. These remarks come as military tensions rise between the two neighbouring countries.
State-run Radio Pakistan reported on Friday that Afghan Taliban forces opened unprovoked firing in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan on October 27. Pakistani forces reportedly retaliated by using heavy weapons to target border posts, defensive bunkers, and military installations.
The cross-border clash in Angoor Adda led to civilian casualties and property damage, according to reports cited by PTI. Some Taliban personnel were reportedly killed or abandoned their positions, though these claims could not be independently verified.
The Afghan defence ministry accused Pakistan of initiating the attack on October 28 through four drone strikes targeting the Angoor Adda market and a commission in Baktika province. Afghanistan claimed its forces responded by targeting Pakistani military headquarters, resulting in the killing and wounding of Pakistani soldiers.
