Rajnath Singh celebrates Diwali with army personnel in Sikkim

The Defence Minister visited the Sherathang War Memorial to honour martyrs and interact with troops near Nathula Pass.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated Diwali with Indian Army personnel at the Sherathang War Memorial near Nathula Pass in Sikkim on Sunday. According to India Today, Singh was accompanied by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and senior officers during the visit.

Addressing the troops, Singh said that the presence of soldiers along the borders allows citizens to celebrate festivals and sleep peacefully. He noted that the ability of people to light lamps in their homes is due to the sacrifices made by brave soldiers to protect the country.

The Defence Minister paid tribute to the martyrs at the war memorial and extended greetings to the soldiers and their families. He stated that the service of the personnel would not be forgotten and that every generation of Indians would remember their sacrifice.

Singh also emphasised that discipline is the greatest strength of the armed forces, noting that technology becomes useless without it. He added that the conduct, uniform, and restraint of the personnel help shape the perception of the Army among local communities.

Following the interaction with the troops, Singh visited the Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, a shrine dedicated to an Indian Army soldier in eastern Sikkim.
