West Bengal BJP MLA hospitalised after alleged assault by party workers
Subhashis Om was attacked while attempting to stop party workers from filing police cases against each other in Debra.
Subhashis Om, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Debra in West Bengal, was hospitalised on Monday evening following an alleged assault by a group of party workers, according to the Hindustan Times.
The MLA was initially admitted to the Debra hospital with injuries to his head and arms before being moved to the Midnapore district hospital. A West Midnapore district police officer stated that Om has named six people in a handwritten complaint submitted to the Debra police station.
Speaking to reporters at the hospital, Om said he was attacked while trying to stop party workers from filing police cases against one another. He added that his mission is to end extortion.
BJP activists in Debra said the legislator had received complaints against certain party workers while overseeing work at a government office on Monday afternoon. He was allegedly assaulted while travelling to the police station.
State panchayat and rural development minister Dilip Ghosh, who is also an MLA from the district, said the party will look into the matter if there was a quarrel between two groups.
