Kerala will implement model women’s policy without compromises, says CM

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan announced plans for a special Act to protect women from social media attacks during a summit in Thiruvananthapuram.

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said on Monday that a model women’s policy to protect women from violence and ensure socio-economic development will be implemented in the state without compromises. He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day ‘Her Summit 2026’ event in Thiruvananthapuram, which is part of the Makalkoppam scheme, according to The Hindu.

The Chief Minister stated that the government is considering a special Act to protect women from attacks on social media, which would include a provision for imprisoning those found guilty. He noted that women face insults and violence in homes, public places, workplaces, and cyberspace regardless of their age.

Mr. Satheesan said projects would be launched this year to make all Kudumbashree members financially independent. He added that products and services suited to local areas would be marketed with government assistance and the support of a knowledge partner.

The Chief Minister said the viewpoints of people from all sectors would be gathered to frame the policy and that no financial constraints would hinder its implementation. He stated that Keralam should become the first state in the country to adopt evolving global perspectives on women’s safety.

Minister for Women and Child Development Bindhu Krishna, who presided over the function, said the policy would ensure representation for women in the green economy, emerging employment areas, and local self-governments. She added that women's participation would be ensured in budget decisions, administration, and policy formulation.

Ms. Krishna also said the policy would address adolescent and mental health, as well as postpartum depression. The government intends to collect opinions from all sections of people, including men and women from the new generation, to frame the policy.
