Three Punjab AAP MLAs join BJP in New Delhi

The move comes ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections after two legislators resigned from the ruling party's membership.

Three Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs from Punjab joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its headquarters in New Delhi on Monday, November 2, 2026, according to The Hindu. The legislators are Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, and Chetan Singh Jauramajra.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, a former IPS officer and the MLA from the Amritsar North seat, resigned as a member of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Monday. Singh, who was recently suspended from AAP, stated on Facebook that he had sent his resignation to Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.

Chetan Singh Jauramajra, representing the Samana constituency, and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, from Sanour in Patiala district, had resigned from the party's primary membership on Sunday, November 1. The two MLAs said they were quitting because the party failed to fulfil promises made during the 2022 Assembly polls.

AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal criticised the BJP for attempting to induct leaders who have been expelled or have left other parties. Dhaliwal said that while AAP has taken action against its own ministers and MLAs over corruption, the BJP is attempting to bring in leaders facing serious allegations.

The shift occurs ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections due in 2027.
