Monster Hunter Outlanders offers handheld hunting experience on mobile

The free-to-play action role-player features smooth combat and detailed RPG elements despite a weak story and aggressive microtransactions.

The recently released Monster Hunter Outlanders provides a handheld gaming experience on mobile platforms, according to Telangana Today. Developed and published by Level Infinite, TiMi for Garena, and Tencent Games, the free-to-play title is available on Android, iOS, and iPad OS.

Players act as the captain of a monster hunter team that fights a behemoth-sized dragon in the sky before landing in the world of Aesoland. In Aesoland, players hunt unique monsters to allow other species to live peacefully, while unlocking new weapons and armour at the forge.

The game features smooth combat with minimal input delay and includes various weapon choices and RPG elements. While the combat and detailed skill aspects are noted, the story is described as simplistic and weak.

The experience is hampered by aggressive microtransactions and an excessive number of in-game currencies. Additionally, the gacha mechanics used for summoning heroes and support characters are reported to be impractical in combat.

Monster Hunter Outlanders received an overall score of 7.25 out of 10. The game earned an 8 for game handling and quality, while innovative gameplay, value for time, and potential progression without purchases each scored 7.
