BMC removes Dia Mirza Diwali video after BJP leader's objection

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation deleted a campaign clip featuring the actress after Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam criticised the post.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed a video featuring actress Dia Mirza from its social media accounts on Sunday. The video was part of a campaign urging Mumbai residents to avoid noise pollution and follow Bombay High Court directions regarding firecrackers during Diwali.

According to reports by Moneycontrol and Deccan Chronicle, the removal followed criticism from Mumbai BJP President Ameet Satam. In a post on X tagging the civic body, Satam stated that people do not need lessons on celebrating Diwali from the actress and noted that traditions are deeply rooted in culture.

While the video featuring Mirza was taken down without an explanation, other campaign clips remain on the BMC's X and Instagram pages. These retained videos feature cricketer Ajinkya Rahane and actors Madhuri Dixit and Nishigandha Wad.

The BMC, led by Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, has not provided a comment on the matter. The original post had mentioned that the High Court prohibits the use of firecrackers on footpaths, lanes, and public roads.
