Basavaraj Bommai to seek interim relief for sugarcane farmers
The BJP MP plans to meet a central panel in New Delhi on Thursday to address pricing issues for farmers.
BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai said on Sunday that he will urge the central panel on sugar prices, headed by Ramesh Chand, to provide interim relief to sugarcane farmers.
According to The Hindu, Bommai has sought an appointment with the panel in New Delhi on Thursday to submit a letter regarding the matter.
The MP stated that this relief would help resolve farmer issues and allow sugar factories to begin their crushing season.
Bommai also said he will urge Union Minister for Food Pralhad Joshi to accept the interim relief formula to help farmers.
The remarks came in Haveri after members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha gheraoed Bommai following a Rajyotsava function.
The farmers demanded that the Union government announce a revised Minimum Selling Price for sugar and asked Bommai to intervene personally.
