Ahmedabad police detain 61 illegal immigrants ahead of Diwali

The majority of the detained foreign nationals are from Bangladesh, according to a report by Outlook.

The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch detained 61 foreign nationals staying in the city without valid documentation on Monday, according to Outlook.

Most of those held are Bangladeshi nationals. The operation involved coordinated raids and intelligence gathering across various zones of Ahmedabad to identify individuals residing in India illegally.

Police stated the crackdown was conducted to strengthen public safety and security before the Diwali festivities. Authorities are currently verifying the identity credentials of the detainees.

The Crime Branch said in a press note that legal procedures for the deportation of the individuals are underway. Officials noted that verification drives and legal actions against illegal immigrants will continue.

In October last year, police detained 17 Bangladeshi women living in rented houses in the Sola area. Last year, the Ahmedabad police also detained over 200 Bangladeshi nationals suspected of living illegally in different parts of the city.
