Retired Birbhum revenue official arrested for links to absconding trader

Police apprehended Rabiul Islam during a raid on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday in connection with illegal stone quarrying investigations.

Birbhum police arrested retired government official Rabiul Islam on Monday for his alleged connections to absconding stone quarry owner Tulu Mondal, also known as Mohammad Nazibuddin, according to The Hawk.

Islam, a former deputy district land and land reforms department officer in Birbhum, was apprehended during a raid conducted between Sunday and Monday.

The investigation involves illegal stone quarry operations and the alleged accumulation of illicit wealth. Islam's name was included in a charge sheet filed on October 13, which named 12 accused individuals.

Police have already arrested 11 of the accused, while the main suspect, Tulu Mondal, remains at large. Mondal is described as a close confidant of former Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal.

The police have previously arrested Sabyasachi Mondal, the former block land revenue officer of Mohammadbazar block, on October 4 in relation to this case.

Authorities have confiscated Rs 220 crore in cash and gold belonging to Mondal, his relatives, and associates. Islam is expected to appear before a Suri lower court on Monday, where the public prosecutor will request police custody.
