Three arrested for pro-Khalistan graffiti at Delhi Metro stations

The accused allegedly targeted singer Diljit Dosanjh and expressed support for the banned Sikhs for Justice organisation.

The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested three people, including a woman, for allegedly writing pro-Khalistan graffiti at the Jahangirpuri and Shastri Nagar metro stations last week, according to reports by Hindustan Times, The Tribune and India TV.

The graffiti, which was discovered on October 29 and 30, expressed support for the banned separatist organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and included threats against Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh during his Aura India tour.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 30-year-old Sumeet, alias Raftar, from Panipat, 22-year-old Sumit Kumar, alias Kaka, from Gurdaspur, and 22-year-old Gurpreet from Hoshiarpur.

Police said Sumit Kumar was the main instigator who was recruited by SFJ sympathisers and allegedly received instructions and graffiti templates via an encrypted messaging application from a handler.

Investigators stated that the group was promised a substantial financial reward for the act. Sumeet allegedly painted the graffiti at Jahangirpuri and recorded a video, while Sumit and Gurpreet carried out the writing at Shastri Nagar.

Two FIRs have been registered under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, 2007, and the Metro Railways (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. Police are working to find the handlers who coordinated the activity.
