Elderly woman killed in leopard attack in Palghar
Villagers in Maharashtra's Palghar district have threatened to protest if the leopard responsible for the death is not captured quickly.
A 65-year-old woman was killed by a leopard in Mategaon village, located in the Dahanu forest division of Maharashtra's Palghar district, on Sunday evening, according to Telangana Today.
The victim, Tulsi Rama Sawar, was an agricultural labourer from Sarshi village in the Vikramgad taluka. The leopard reportedly pounced on her and grabbed her by the neck, causing her to die at the scene, said Vangaon assistant police inspector Tushar Pachpute.
Local residents moved toward the area after hearing noise, but the animal escaped into a nearby forest during the night.
The police have registered a case of accidental death and sent the body to a government hospital for a postmortem examination.
Angry farmers and villagers have threatened to march to the district collectorate. They are demanding the immediate installation of cages and camera traps to catch the leopard.
