Lucknow Police bust illegal telecom network used for digital arrest scams

Six illegal SIM boxes and various digital devices were seized during coordinated raids across four locations in the city, according to ANI.

The Lucknow Police Crime Branch has dismantled an illegal telecom network used for 'digital arrest' cyber scams under 'Operation Digital Kavach', according to ANI.

Police conducted raids at four locations in Lucknow, including Chinhat, BBD, Para, and Sushant Golf City, to uncover the setup.

Officers seized six illegal SIM boxes containing 192 SIM slots, three VPN Gateways, 21 Smart Switches, and three Smart Hubs.

The recovery also included 18 batteries, four UPS units, a locked tablet, Wi-Fi routers, and security cameras.

Preliminary investigations indicate the infrastructure was used to mask caller identities by routing international VoIP calls as local cellular calls to bypass telecom gateways.

Officials stated the equipment was allegedly used to carry out extortion and 'digital arrest' frauds in different states.

A case has been registered at the Cyber Police Station, and the seized hardware has been sent for forensic examination to track the network's handlers.
