Three Kuki community members killed in Manipur gunfight

The Kuki Inpi Manipur alleged that Naga militant groups were responsible for the killings in Noney district.

Three people belonging to the Kuki community were killed during a gunfight between rival armed groups in Manipur's Noney district on Saturday, according to The New Indian Express and The Hindu.

The exchange of fire broke out on the morning of October 31 at Kekru Naga village. The gunfight continued for several hours in the forested hill area.

The deceased have been identified as Thanglensang Singson, Thangkhosei Haokip and Lamminsang Kipgen. A police officer stated that the three individuals hailed from interior parts of Henglep and Thanlon in Churachandpur district.

According to Kuki civil organisations, the deceased were village volunteers. Police said that necessary security measures have been taken in the area.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), which is the apex body of the Kuki community, condemned the killings. In a statement, KIM alleged that Naga militant groups were behind the incident.

KIM has demanded justice and accountability, while urging the State government to take immediate action.
