CPI(M) leader Jayarajan claims UDF government is stalling development in Kannur
M.V. Jayarajan alleged that a Vigilance probe into KIIFB land acquisitions is being used to obstruct infrastructure projects.
KANNUR: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader M.V. Jayarajan alleged on Sunday that the Congress-led UDF government is using a Vigilance investigation into KIIFB land acquisitions to hinder development, specifically in Kannur.
Mr. Jayarajan told reporters that a government order dated October 30, 2026, selectively targeted land acquisition in Kannur. He noted that similar procedures were followed in Palakkad under the same central legislation.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has been directed to investigate the acquisition of 4,896 acres in Kannur, costing approximately ₹12,240 crore. The government order also mentions 470 acres in Palakkad, bringing the total land to 5,366 acres with an estimated expenditure of ₹12,710 crore.
Mr. Jayarajan claimed the inquiry is politically motivated to weaken KIIFB. He said the agency finances infrastructure because the State treasury lacks funds for large-scale development after meeting salary and pension commitments.
The leader stated that projects worth nearly ₹60,000 crore have received administrative approval, been tendered, or are under construction. He added that projects worth more than ₹40,000 crore, including roads, bridges, and hospitals, have already been completed.
Mr. Jayarajan warned the investigation could jeopardise proposed works, such as a 1,000-acre industrial park near Kannur International Airport. He also alleged that several Congress leaders had received compensation for acquired land.
