Four hotel workers die after inhaling toxic gas in Ujjain
The victims collapsed in a food waste chamber at a hotel on Dewas Road on Saturday night.
Four hotel employees died after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a waste chamber at a hotel in Ujjain on Saturday night, according to ANI and Hindustan Times.
The incident occurred at the Shri Ganga Hotel on Dewas Road when workers entered a chamber used for collecting leftover food and residual waste.
Ujjain Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma said a gas leak likely made the floor very slippery, causing the workers to collapse.
District Collector Raushan Kumar Singh stated that two people initially entered the food waste tank for cleaning, and two others subsequently entered the tank to try and save them.
Madhav Nagar police station in-charge Gajendra Pachoriya said it took nearly 90 minutes to pull the four men out after using a cutting machine to open the metal chamber door.
While police personnel attempted to revive the men using CPR, none survived, and their bodies have been sent for autopsy.
