Army and civil authorities to revive Beirchha Lake and Gambhir River
A joint Board of Officers has been formed to oversee land mapping and ecological restoration in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.
The Indian Army's Station Headquarters in Mhow and civil administration have partnered to lead the revival of Beirchha Lake and the Gambhir River in Madhya Pradesh, according to the Free Press Journal.
The project follows successful grassroots conservation efforts by the Janapav Gram Panchayat. Because a significant portion of the Beirchha Lake area is under defence jurisdiction, the Station Headquarters has formed a multi-agency Board of Officers (BOO) to coordinate the work.
A Colonel from the Army War College (AWC) will lead the board as Presiding Officer. The team includes representatives from the Infantry School, Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), Defence Estates Office (DEO), Garrison Engineer (CWE), Land Management Authority (LMA), Signal Detachment, and Janapav Panchayat.
The board is tasked with surveying defence land, recording dimensions and classifications, and creating geo-referenced maps. They will also identify underground infrastructure for potential relocation and document trees with a girth larger than 15.24 cm that may need pruning or removal.
The initiative includes watershed management such as rainwater harvesting and contour trenching to improve groundwater recharge and water availability for agriculture and drinking. Janpad Panchayat CEO Giriraj Dubey said the project would provide new direction to water conservation and ecological restoration in Mhow tehsil.
The board must provide its complete report and suggestions by November 30, 2026.
