Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar urged the Tamil diaspora to support the state's GDP contribution to help achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Tamil Nadu marked its 70th formation day on Sunday, with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar calling on the people and the Tamil diaspora to advance the state's 9.4 per cent GDP contribution, according to reports by Deccan Chronicle and ThePrint.
In a video released by the Lok Bhavan, Arlekar highlighted the state's role in India's development since reorganisation. He noted that the combination of industrial ecosystems, education, and traditions serves as an example of holistic progress.
The governor mentioned that the state recorded the country's second-highest GST collections last year. He also pointed out that Tamil Nadu currently provides approximately 9.4 per cent of the national GDP.
Arlekar stated that the state, which covers 1.40 lakh square kilometres, has a population of over 7.5 crores. He noted that nearly 25 per cent of these residents are part of a youth demographic.
The governor commended the global influence of Tamil heritage and the efforts of administrative leaders and grassroots workers. He said Tamils living across India act as cultural ambassadors who support regional economies.
He concluded by stating that the state's goals align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
